Find a TV height that fits the way you actually watch.
Estimate screen centerline, bottom and top edges, viewing distance, bed-height positioning, and furniture clearance before holes are drilled.

The principle
Start with the viewer—not a generic height chart.
A comfortable installation begins with actual eye height, viewing distance, posture, screen dimensions, and the room itself. A common eye-level guideline is useful, but the correct result changes when seating reclines, a bed raises the viewer, a soundbar occupies the wall, or the screen grows.

Viewing distance
Screen size and distance work together.
For a 4K television, an immersive starting distance is about 1.2 times the screen diagonal. Many rooms feel comfortable across a broader range of roughly 1.2 to 1.6 times the diagonal. The calculator reports whether the entered position falls within that planning range.
For example, a 65-inch display begins around 6.5 feet for an immersive view and remains practical farther away depending on personal preference, room use, and content.
Major 4K TV sizes
Viewing-distance starting points.
| TV size | Approx. 16:9 screen height | Planning distance | Mounting-height recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 43 in | 21 1/16 in | 4′ 3 5/8″–5′ 8 13/16″ | Center near measured seated eye line |
| 50 in | 24 1/2 in | 5′ 0″–6′ 8″ | Center near measured seated eye line |
| 55 in | 26 15/16 in | 5′ 6″–7′ 4″ | Center near measured seated eye line |
| 65 in | 31 7/8 in | 6′ 6″–8′ 8″ | Center near measured seated eye line |
| 75 in | 36 3/4 in | 7′ 6″–10′ 0″ | Center near measured seated eye line |
| 77 in | 37 3/4 in | 7′ 8 3/8″–10′ 3 3/16″ | Center near measured seated eye line |
| 83 in | 40 11/16 in | 8′ 3 5/8″–11′ 0 13/16″ | Center near measured seated eye line |
| 85 in | 41 11/16 in | 8′ 6″–11′ 4″ | Center near measured seated eye line |
Television cabinet dimensions vary by model. Use the actual product height for final top- and bottom-edge calculations.

TV size
Use the centerline—not the bottom edge—as the reference.
Larger televisions extend farther above and below the same center point. That is why copying another installation’s bottom-edge height can produce an uncomfortable result when the screen size changes.

Bedroom televisions
Bed size does not determine eye height.
Twin, full, queen, king, and California king beds differ mainly in width and length. For mounting height, measure the floor-to-mattress height, the viewer’s eye height above the mattress, viewing distance, and normal recline angle. Use the calculator’s bedroom mode instead of relying on a fixed chart.

Furniture and obstructions
The best theoretical height must still fit the room.
Consoles, soundbars, windows, built-ins, receptacles, wall construction, and future equipment access can raise or shift the practical position. Enter the highest obstruction and desired clearance so the calculator can flag the compromise.

Above a fireplace
Fireplace mounting may not provide the optimal viewing angle.
The preferred installation path is an alternate wall that permits a comfortable screen centerline. When the fireplace wall is the only practical option, Orange Structural will position the television as low as fireplace clearances, heat exposure, mantel depth and wall construction safely allow. A standard tilting mount may also help direct the screen toward the seating area and improve the available viewing experience.

Measure before calculating
Four measurements make the result useful.
- Measure from the floor to the viewer’s eyes in the normal seated or reclined position.
- Measure from the viewer’s eyes to the planned screen surface.
- Measure the actual television height when possible.
- Measure the top of any console, soundbar, mantel, or other obstruction.

Planning references
Built from established viewing principles.
The calculator uses measured eye height and basic viewing geometry, together with a 1.2×–1.6× screen-diagonal planning range. Compare the general guidance from Samsung’s TV size guide and Sony’s TV placement guidance. Personal comfort and actual room conditions still control the final position.
