With an Emby-based system, HDHomeRun can provide the local television source while Emby organizes compatible antenna channels and authorized IPTV sources within one media experience. Pairing HDHomeRun with Emby Premiere and compatible recording storage also enables DVR recording for shows and movies broadcast on available channels. With secure remote access configured, you can keep up with local news, watch live television, and enjoy your recordings while away from home—even on vacation in Paris or Milan—using supported devices and a reliable internet connection. Free local TV completes the streaming household

Many households now build their entertainment around services such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, or other streaming platforms instead of a traditional cable or satellite package. An antenna fills an important gap by delivering receivable local stations for live news, popular and award-winning network dramas and comedies, reality competitions, daytime programs, football, the Super Bowl when carried by a local broadcast network, and other major events—without requiring a paid live-TV streaming package. Add a compatible Tablo or HDHomeRun-based DVR system and you can schedule, record, and play back individual programs or an entire television series on your own time. Late-night programming that airs after bedtime can be waiting for you to watch the next day at your leisure.

What the numbers mean: An antenna can complement the streaming services a household already uses by restoring eligible live local channels without another monthly television subscription. A compatible DVR can make those channels behave more like a modern on-demand library by recording one episode, a recurring series, news, late-night programming, or live events for later playback. It does not replace every sports or entertainment source: programming exclusive to ESPN, a regional sports network, cable, or a streaming platform still requires authorized access to that service. Actual local channel reception must also be verified at the property.

Peer-reviewed research from Indiana University and Harvard examining U.S. household choices among OTA, cable or satellite, and streaming found substantial cord-cutting, particularly among younger and lower-income households. The researchers did not publish a percentage of pay-TV customers primarily watching OTA-available channels, so that narrower claim is not presented here as a measured fact.
